The Jolly Fisherman celebrates his 100th birthday
Skegness' famous character, the Jolly Fisherman, is 100 years old this year. The painting of the Jolly Fisherman was originally created by artist John Hassall as a railway poster in 1908 for the Great Northern Railway Company. The famous slogan 'Skegness is SO Bracing' was added to the bottom of the painting, and over the years has become famous in its own right. Jolly still lives in Skegness and often takes a walk along the sandy beach waving to the many visitors.

The Hildred's Shopping Centre has a fine selection of well known chain-stores alongside a multitude of shops where you can buy your souvenirs to take back home.
